Positive Behavior Support Policy
Our Philosophy
- All children and adults must be treated with dignity and respect
- Children can and want to behave appropriately
- Clear and specific directions are more likely to be followed
- Behavior is shaped by its consequences—both positive, neutral and negative
- We believe in Positive Behavior Support and therefore teach our students the desirable behaviors so they may be successful
OUR PROGRAM
- BE SAFE, BE RESPONSIBLE, BE RESPECTFUL at all times in all campus locations
- Emphasis on reinforcement of appropriate behaviors by using praise and rewards.
- Detailed classroom management plans
- Explicitly teaching students appropriate behavior
- Written behavior agreements for children who repeatedly demonstrate inappropriate behavior—parent must be part of the team
- Emphasis in:
- Clarifying expectations for students, parents and staff.
- On-going reinforcement of the Positive School Discipline Policy.
- Instruction on problem solving steps for conflict resolution.
- Developing responsibility for one’s own behavior.
- Instruction to develop moral and ethical values.
Student Responsibilities
- BE SAFE, BE RESPONSIBLE, BE RESPECTFUL at all times
- Respect the authority of teachers, administrators and other school staff to enforce District policy and school rules regarding student discipline and good character
- Behave in classrooms and on school campus in a manner that does not disrupt or interfere with the rights of other students to learn
- Follow school and classroom rules
- Maintain regular school attendance unless ill
Parent Responsibilties
- BE SAFE, BE RESPONSIBLE, BE RESPECTFUL at all times, including in the main office
- Share the responsibility to teach appropriate conduct and good character to your children; it is to our collective advantage to develop self-disciplined citizens of good character
- Reinforce children at home who demonstrate appropriate behavior
- Review school rules and regulations with family members to ensure that all are familiar with and understand the standards of conduct expected by school staff
- Supporting the School Discipline Policyby signing the Contract Commitment, as needed
- Cooperating with the school in carrying out appropriate consequences (positive or negative) when necessary
- Seeking out additional resources and appropriate community agencies for assistance in correcting behavior of students, as needed
- Being an active participant in your child’s education by attending school conferences and activities as well as daily monitoring of student academic progress and conduct
Teacher Responsibilites
- BE SAFE, BE RESPONSIBLE, BE RESPECTFUL at all times
- Assist in the development and monitoring of the school rules
- Develop explicit classroom rules that clearly communicate to students and parents what is needed from students in order to maximize their learning
- Establish a classroom management program and atmosphere that promotes positive behavior and gives every student the opportunity to learn in a positive, enriching and caring environment without unnecessary disruption
- Communicate with student and parents regarding behavior successes, inappropriate behavior and proposed solutions
- Develop behavior modification agreement/contract, as needed, with child, parent and administrators
Administration Responsibilities
- BE SAFE, BE RESPONSIBLE, BE RESPECTFUL at all times
- Provide on-going support to maintain and enforce the Positive School Wide Discipline Policy for students, staff and parents
- Support staff with severe disruptive student behavior
- Conference with parents, staff and students when inappropriate conduct is severe or chronic
School Rules
- BE SAFE, BE RESPONSIBLE, BE RESPECTFUL at all times
- Keep hands, feet and objects to self
- Remain in assigned areas at all times
- Use only kind and courteous words
- Show respect to each other and all adults
- Follow directions/instructions
Lunch and Recess Rules
- No loud noises or loud talking in lunch lines or tables at any time
- Students must be in single file to the lunch window
- Students must use good table manners when sitting and eating
- Students are responsible for cleaning their table and the area under and around their table and put all trash in the proper containers
- Students will be dismissed by playground supervisors, they must walk at all times
- Students must play in their assigned area
- Students are not allowed in any building or hallways during recess/lunch.
Parents are not permitted to eat lunch with students in the lunch pavilion due to Federal Regulations.
